Christmas Cheer
The spirit of Christmas begins to bloom in early December with decorations and lights transforming Anguilla’s towns and beaches into a holiday paradise. The last two weeks of December are especially lively, attracting visitors from all over, including celebrities looking for a warm Christmas retreat. Christmas trees, fairy lights, and community gatherings are popular around the island, creating a festive environment that is truly unique to Anguilla. Many resorts and local spots also offer live music and holiday dining events, ensuring plenty of options to soak up the Christmas spirit.
A highlight of the season is the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in The Valley, where locals and visitors gather to witness the ceremonial lighting of a massive tree. This event includes live entertainment, games, and competition at The Trough on Coronation Avenue. Some years even see the addition of Anguilla's “Christmas Village,” an enchanting display of holiday lights and decorations, providing a lovely place for evening strolls and family photos.
National Heroes and Heroines Day on December 19th is another important celebration, honoring those who have contributed to Anguilla’s cultural and social fabric. Visitors can expect memorial services, parades, and music performances to remember and celebrate the island’s heroes.
